Mythologies

The World of Wrestling

10 sentence response summarizing what the authors argument was.
Do I disagree with wrestling as a public spectacle?
What is the meaning of wrestling in today’s culture
Why did they dress in costumes

The author, Roland Barthes, argued that professional wrestling is more of an art form like theater than most people give it credit for. He states that the professionals use appearances and deliberate actions to evoke certain emotions from the spectators. Things like masks, outfits, and physical fitness are major components in swaying onlooker’s opinions of the fighters. Barthes points out that wrestlers, much like actors, can act purposely good or evil-like just for the sake of entertainment. I agree with Barthes that wrestlers should get more credit for what they do than probably the majority of the population gives them. The purposes of matches are for pure entertainment. The author compares this to boxing or judo and makes a point to credit pro wrestlers with the same talent. To entertain and sway people to form positive or negative emotions takes just as much skill as a more "credible" profession.

+What the fuck is this? I leave you alone for one fucking second and you start writing about wrestling. Fucking Christ I don’t care if you did it for a friend. Fucking worse you moron. Next time… just keep your mouth shut eh? Wouldn’t that be a little smarter? A little, what would you call it… a little more buttoned-down? Oh and about your wife’s cooking last night; that turkey almost killed me it was so good.

-god forbid.
